What’s your story?
I’ve been at NAB for 7 years now. I first started as an IBM WebSphere Technical Consultant and then made the move to be a permanent employee in Dev Ops - I haven’t looked back since. Having worked with IBM and Odecee, I took the plunge to become a Cloud Warrior - the highest accreditation possible in Cloud technology. I’m proud to say I’m one of just 20 Cloud Warriors across Australia and New Zealand. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to use my skills and knowledge to make tangible changes for our customers.
How have you made a difference?
I’m incredibly excited about the new training program that NAB has just announced. We have just under 3,000 staff so far who want to be trained in Amazon Web Services and I’m so excited to be part of this initiative. NAB’s commitment and backing of this education program is inspiring and makes me proud of the organisation. The training will provide our staff with an opportunity to broaden their skills and capability and to learn everything that Cloud has to offer. I’m also really proud of the relationship that NAB has with Amazon Alexa. I was involved in making this happen with a proof of concept back in 2016 and we showed how technology through different media is now on our doorstep. We put together a working Alexa skill (the Amazon name for voice-activated capabilities) in 24 hours as part of an internal competition, and we were very excited when we were voted ‘People’s Choice’. Alexa was released in 2018 in Australia, and NAB was one of the first to introduce a skill to be used in Australia. I love it; it’s great to see it go live after working on it two years back.
What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about all things Cloud, NAB and of course, my family. Having so many staff trained in Cloud will allow for us to innovate even more for our customers and make revolutionary changes and improvements to make banking simpler. NAB is an awesome employer. I thoroughly enjoy working with my fellow technology and developer colleagues, bouncing ideas off them and solving problems together. My family are of course one of my many joys. I have one daughter aged 12, and we love training together for her AFLW team in the under 12’s in old Fitzroy. She is a lot better than I am.
