Evelyn wants to make a positive difference in other people's lives.
Name: Richard Baculo
Your role: Team Leader, Training Hub
Region: Docklands, Victoria
What’s your story?
My story starts when I used to be a professional hip-hop dancer. Our dance group would perform for schools, weddings and all sorts of special events. It was the best feeling performing on stage and entertaining the crowd by telling stories and conveying positive message through dance. Eventually we decided to take dancing to the next level and opened up our own dance studio. Our main goal was to give back to the community and provide opportunities for the next generation of dancers. I am very lucky to continue my passion for teaching and leadership in my current role in the Training Hub within NAB Assist.
How have you made a difference?
Leading brand new entrants into the organisation has given me the opportunity to set our people up for success from day one. Especially working in NAB Assist, it’s important for me to coach my people to be confident and compassionate when dealing with customers who are experiencing unexpected life events, impacting their ability to meet their financial commitments. Sometimes it’s not an easy conversation to have when our customers are financially vulnerable and their lives have suddenly been turned upside down. By cultivating a positive and engaging culture and most importantly putting the customer at the heart of what we do, I empower my people to have real conversations with our customers by listening to their stories and truly understanding what’s going on in their lives. Once our bankers and customers start working together, we’re no longer part of the problem. Instead, we’re part of the solution.
What are you passionate about?
My passion is to inspire people and lead them to become better versions of themselves by coaching them to have a ‘Growth Mindset’. This is a philosophy I live by and share with others. It’s the simple idea of embracing challenges, the desire to learn and seeing effort as a path to mastery. I also love riddles and magic tricks!
