You can use the Purpose of Payment descriptions below to help you identify which Purpose of Payment Code should be used for your payment. You’ll need to include the code and the Purpose of Payment name with your payment.

Example: ‘9091 Postal Services’.

Depending on the beneficiary customer, additional information should accompany the payment:

The beneficiary customer is an individual

A beneficiary Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) or Smart National Identity Card number (SNIC) should be included in the ‘instructions to beneficiary’ or ‘Purpose of Payment’ field (depending on the NAB channel you use to make the payment). CNIC and SNIC numbers contain 13 numeric digits and should begin with CNIC or SNIC when providing this information.

Example: ‘CNIC 11111-4556111-1’ or ‘SNIC 11111-4556111-1’.

The beneficiary is a foreign national

A passport number of the beneficiary can be provided in lieu of the CNIC or SNIC number (if the beneficiary doesn’t have a CNIC or SNIC number). The passport number should be pre-fixed with the word ‘passport’.

Example: ‘PASSPORT AB1234567’.

The beneficiary is a corporate entity

A beneficiary National Tax Number (NTN) is mandatory in the ‘instructions to beneficiary’ or ‘Purpose of Payment’ field (depending on the NAB channel you use to make the payment). When providing this information, begin the number with NTN.

Example: ‘NTN 0003456-2’.
