Name: Tristan Larter
Your role: Finance Partner, Marketing and Digital
Region: Docklands, Victoria
What’s your story?
I’m very lucky to have had hugely supportive parents who encouraged me to give everything a go. I tried most sports (averagely), played the trumpet and piano (terribly), and fumbled my way through Commerce and Law degrees. Clearly not cut out for a career in sport or music, I fell into banking and NAB. A three-month contract began eight years ago and I’m still here. I’m currently a finance partner supporting NAB’s Marketing and Customer Experience teams.
How have you made a difference?
Whilst a finance career can often feel a long way from the front-line and customers, it has enabled me to work with multiple areas of the business to create better products and customer experiences. The work we do enables front-line teams to serve our customers better every day.
I volunteered for six weeks in the Kimberley region through NAB’s partnership with Jawun and loved my time there. I helped to establish Aarnja, an organisation dedicated to empowering Indigenous Australians. I have also mentored NAB’s graduates and African Australian Inclusion Program participants and loved seeing them establish their careers at NAB.
What are you passionate about?
In my personal life I am passionate about my family, friends and making the most of every opportunity. Always looking for the next adventure, I’ve trekked to Everest Base Camp, ridden horses in Mongolia, slept under the stars in the Indian desert and jumped out of one too many planes (one is too many).
At work I’m passionate about being part of an organisation that backs people to achieve their goals, whether home ownership or expanding a business. I also get great satisfaction from seeing people and teams I work with produce outcomes beyond what they thought was possible.
