Token migration | NAB Gateway - NAB

Moving to NAB Gateway

If you’re moving to NAB Gateway, token migration lets you move your customers’ card payment information from your current payment gateway without asking customers to re-enter their card details.

It’s a secure and compliant way to keep payments running smoothly while you upgrade your payments platform.

If you’re a current NAB Transact customer, moving to NAB Gateway and want to use the Token Migration Service, you will need to contact your NAB business banker or our Transactional Banking Specialist Team on 1300 338 767  Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 6:00pm (AEST/AEDT).

What is token migration?

Token migration means securely moving your customers’ card payment details from your current gateway to NAB Gateway and creating new tokens, ensuring sensitive card information remains protected.

Why migrating your tokens to NAB Gateway is simple and safe

  • Minimal customer disruption – customers don’t need to re‑enter card details.
  • Business continuity – recurring and scheduled payments can continue as normal.
  • Maintain security and compliance – card data is protected through tokenisation and aligned with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) requirements.

Common questions about token migration

  • NAB Gateway offers two migration approaches. We’ll help you choose the right option based on your business needs.

Standard approach – a file-based approach where card payment information will need to be extracted from your current gateway and transferred to NAB Gateway for new tokens to be created.

Self‑serve approach – create tokens at your own pace using NAB Gateway APIs.

    • A valid PCI DSS compliance certificate from your card payment information holder.
    • Merchant facilities have been created.
  • Token migration is an optional service. It’s particularly suited to businesses that have a need to continue to accept recurring or subscription payments without impacting their customers.

  • There is no limit to the number of tokens you can migrate.

  • Timeframes vary depending on your migration approach, the number of tokens and your existing setup. NAB will confirm expected timelines once your requirements are understood.
