New office enhances employee experience

NAB has opened new state-of-the-art offices in the heart of Melbourne, as the bank continues to embrace hybrid working.

NAB Place Melbourne at 395 Bourke Street will be a key workplace for the bank’s Melbourne-based employees, along with 700 Bourke Street in

This is the second new corporate office building that NAB has launched this year. The bank opened NAB Place Sydney at 2 Carrington Street in May.

Spread across 39 levels, the light-filled new building supports different types of working. NAB customers and employees will also be able to connect in a vast 3 storey customer lounge.

At maximum capacity, the building will be able to host 5,600 employees.

NAB’s new building is filled with different collaborative spaces.

Where innovation happens

NAB Group Executive, Technology and Enterprise Operations Patrick Wright said NAB had invested in its new workplaces in Melbourne and Sydney to increase collaboration, and to bring NAB’s employees closer to their customers.

“NAB has championed flexible working for a long time, and the global pandemic accelerated the shift to hybrid working,” Mr Wright said.

“Working from home is often particularly good for individual work and focussed time, but face-to-face interactions and our CBD offices remain vital."

“This is where innovation happens, where new employees can learn from their colleagues and relationships are strengthened."

“The new offices are designed for team meetings, strategy sessions and meetings with our customers. They are also designed to allow maximum flexibility, so we are set up for success today and for decades into the future,” he said.

The building offers high density wifi for easy connection to digital tools and collaboration spaces. It also provides ergonomic 34-inch curved desktop monitors and USB C enabled connections so employees can use one cord to connect to screens and charge their laptops at the same time. Zoom video conferencing is in all meeting rooms.

Wellbeing focus

NAB Place Melbourne has also been designed to bolster employees’ health and well-being.

Airy interiors maximise the natural light. There are 644 bike parking spaces and end-of-trip facilities for those wishing to cycle to work.  The building also offers parent rooms, large studios for exercise, multi-faith rooms, and spaces for quiet contemplation.

At maximum capacity, the building will be able to host 5,600 employees.

The building was designed by architects Woods Bagot, with the NAB workspace designed by Hassell.

NAB Place Melbourne is in the heart of the CBD, bringing employees closer to customers.

Rob Backhouse, who led the NAB Place Melbourne project for Hassell, said there was no one way to work, or one type of NAB employee or customer.

“The design offers choice, flexibility and a wonderful welcome back to office-based work,” he said.

Woods Bagot Principal Simon Dick said: “For NAB employees, 395 is a destination workplace, creating a sense of belonging and connection to the city.”
