Awareness campaign promotes preparedness

  • Disaster Relief Australia has joined forces with NAB Foundation to produce a series of social media videos to help prepare Australians for disasters
  • Warmer-than-average temperatures are expected to continue this summer with several states facing an increased fire risk
  • The series of social media videos created by DRA and NAB Foundation provide practical tips including creating an emergency plan, what to pack for an evacuation and how to care for pets during a disaster

Disaster Relief Australia (DRA) is urging Australians to be as prepared as possible for disasters this summer.

DRA has partnered with NAB Foundation to create a series of practical and informative videos, with the aim of providing Australians with essential insights to navigate potential disasters.

DRA CEO, Geoff Evans, said that while disasters can occur throughout the year, the start of summer was an important time to take stock and get prepared.

“Disasters can strike with little notice, but the increased likelihood of bushfires and other disasters throughout summer means it’s vital that Australians are prepared and ready at the start of summer.”

The social media video series contains six videos with DRA volunteers providing practical advice on before, during and after a disaster. Topics include:

  • Episode 1: How to prepare your household
  • Episode 2: How to prepare your pets
  • Episode 3: Steps your household can take at the start of a disaster
  • Episode 4: How to care for your pets in a disaster
  • Episode 5: Steps to take after returning home from a disaster
  • Episode 6: How to care for injured wildlife after a disaster
