How the Summer Intern Program works

Our summer internship is for undergraduate and postgraduate students in their second last year of study. It’s a six-week paid program run over the university summer break. You’ll discover what it’s like to learn and work at one of Australia’s largest and most successful financial institutions.

You’ll not only gain insights into the banking and finance industry, but you’ll be provided with career coaching to help you figure out what you want from your career and how to achieve it. Our program focusses on employability and future skills development that will compliment your study and set you up for future career success.

At the end of the program, you’ll have the opportunity to apply and potentially receive an early offer for our Graduate Program the following year.

Data Analytics

Data Analytics teams are at the core of our business. We see data as the currency of the future. We unlock data to provide insights, drive impactful decisions, serve our customers better and transform our business.

Our people lead, inspire and drive projects and solutions throughout the enterprise to deliver strategic business outcomes. We connect with data, develop and enhance technology services, manage transformational change and implement new ways of working. We’re looking for students who love data and want to leverage the power of data for creating customer value. Graduates who are curious, strategically minded and focussed on delivering actionable insights. In addition, you’ll need to have a degree/major in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science, Econometrics, Mathematics, Modelling or Statistics.

This program stream is held in Melbourne.

Risk

Risk management is vital at NAB to protect our customers and enable sustainable performance for the NAB group. Maintaining a strong risk governance and framework originates at board level and flows down through the organisation. We are responsible for setting NAB’s risk appetite, providing a foundation for effective risk management and promoting an effective risk culture across NAB.

We’re looking for analytical students who like to collect and analyse data to enable the right customer outcomes. Big picture thinkers who can break it down to find actionable solutions and opportunities. Students who are strong communicators, see the value in building relationships and have a passion for making the complex simple.

This program stream is held in Sydney and Melbourne.

Business banking

Being Australia’s largest Business Bank  we’re super passionate about providing specialised financial products, market insights and advice to support our small, medium and large business customers through every stage of their operating cycle.   

We’re looking for students who are commercially and digitally savvy, who want to deliver a world-class customer experience and have a real passion for building a long-term career in Business Banking.

This program stream is held in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

Private wealth

Private Wealth is an integrated team of specialists in banking, investments and advice from NAB Private Wealth, JBWere, opens in new window and nabtrade, opens in new window. We’re responsible for the seamless delivery of tailored banking, wealth and investment solutions to meet our client’s unique needs and ambitions, wherever they are in their lifecycle.

We’re looking for students who have a good understanding of financial markets and investments. Students who are commercially astute, digitally literate and are passionate about delivering an outstanding level of service that is professional, compliant and high calibre. 

This program stream is held in Sydney and Melbourne.

People and culture

We are enablers to NAB’s strategic ambition and custodians of our colleague experience. We focus on making our HR services simple and easy for our people to do their jobs and serve customers well. We provide great data and insights to help our leaders make sustainable workforce decisions. 

We’re looking for commercially savvy students who are curious to find world class examples and leverage the power of data for creating colleague and customer value. We want students with numerical capabilities who can help us transform to be a strategic and data led HR function

This program stream is offered in Melbourne.

Corporate and institutional banking

Corporate finance and client coverage

Our expertise is partnering with our Corporate, Government and Institutional customers to provide world class global solutions. Our business brings together teams of specialists to provide a full range of debt structuring, funding solutions, research, trading and custodial services

We’re looking for students who are interested in understanding global and competitor trends, market conditions and their impact on customers. Students who are comfortable analysing financials and data, critically evaluating alternative approaches and have agility to adapt within a dynamic and fast-moving environment.

This program stream is offered in Sydney and Melbourne.

Financial markets

Our Markets team utilise Sales, Trading and Research expertise to provide local and offshore customers access to both traded and illiquid markets, including fixed income, money markets, credit, derivatives, currencies and commodities. This includes trading between all types of banks, superannuation funds and domestic and multi-national companies. 

This program stream is offered in Melbourne and Sydney and requires you to be completing a STEM related degree such as actuarial studies, econometrics, engineering, mathematics, science or technology.

Eligibility for our Summer Intern Program

You’ll need to make sure you meet the following requirements.

Citizenship and visa requirements

You’ll need to be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or be an Australian or permanent resident at the time of applying for the program.

Tertiary education requirements

You’ll need to be in your second last year of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree and due to complete your degree by December 2022.

Application and selection process

You’ll need to complete the application form, opens in new window. This is where you’ll get the chance to tell us about yourself and nominate your chosen business area. You’ll also need to upload your academic transcript.

If you’re successful, you’ll progress to an online assessment, video interview and finally an engagement centre. Engagement centres are held by business area and completed virtually.

Our summer intern program will run from January 2022 to February 2022. You must be available for full time employment during this period. Please keep the following dates in mind for the application and hiring process.

Important information
