How to add money to your new NAB bank account - NAB

How do you want to use your account?

Before you add money, check which NAB account you want the money to go into. Some accounts are designed for everyday payments, while others are designed to help you save or keep money separate. The way you add money may depend on the type of account you have.

Start with the option that matches where your money is coming from. If you’re changing regular payments, keep your old account open until you know your new payment details are working.

If you want money for everyday spending

A NAB transaction account can be useful for your salary payments, regular payments, bills, direct debits and day-to-day spending.

Use this account to transfer money to your savings accounts.

If you want to save money

A NAB savings account can help you separate money from everyday spending. Some savings accounts may have conditions to earn bonus interest, such as making regular deposits or limiting withdrawals.

Simple ways to add money to your NAB account

There are a few ways to do this, depending on where the money is coming from. You can:

  • transfer money from another bank
  • move money from another NAB account
  • have income or regular payments sent to your account
  • ask people paying you to send money using your PayID® or account details
  • deposit cash in person.

This guide explains some of the main ways to put money into your NAB account, so you can choose what works best for you.

Transfer money from another bank

Best for moving money from another Australian bank account to your NAB account.

  • You can transfer money from another bank using your NAB account’s BSB and account number, or your PayID if you’ve set one up. Payments made using Fast Payments may arrive in under 60 seconds in most instances, depending on the sending bank and payment type.

  • If the payment is important or time sensitive, check the payment status with the sending bank.

Have your pay or regular income sent to your NAB account

Best for salary, wages, government payments, or rental income.

  • If you want regular payments to go into your NAB account, give the paying organisation your account name, BSB and account number. This could include your employer, a government agency, insurer, tenant or another organisation that pays you regularly.

  • Some organisations let you update your payment details online or through their app.

Receive money using PayID or your BSB and account number

Best for receiving money from friends, family, businesses or other organisations.

  • You can receive payments by sharing your BSB and account number. You may also be able to set up a PayID and link it to an eligible NAB account, so people can pay you using something easier to remember, like your mobile number or email address.

  • Only share your banking details with people and organisations you trust.

Transfer money from another NAB account

Best for moving money between your own NAB accounts.

  • If you already have another NAB account, you can transfer money between your NAB accounts in the NAB app or NAB Internet Banking. You can make a one-off transfer or set up a regular transfer.

  • Transfers between your own NAB accounts are generally available straight away.

Deposit cash

Best for adding cash in person.

  • You may be able to deposit cash into your account using a NAB Smart ATM or participating Bank@PostTM location. You’ll need an eligible NAB card or account details, depending on the deposit option you choose.

  • Only share your banking details with people and organisations you trust.
