Empowering tomorrow’s innovators: NAB backs young women in STEM

NAB is proud to be backing the next generation of tech talent - investing in programs that inspire, equip and empower young people to pursue careers in digital, data and technology.

That commitment was on full display at the 2025 Go Girl, Go For IT event, where NAB served as the Diamond Sponsor of Victoria’s largest free tech conference for girls in Years 5 to 12.

Held at Deakin University’s Burwood campus, the event welcomed more than 2,000 students from over 60 schools for a one-day immersive experience designed to spark curiosity, confidence and connection in STEM.

NAB colleagues led more than 40 hands-on workshops throughout the day, including a keynote from NAB Executive Technology Platforms, Melanie Wilkins, who spoke about the importance of creating spaces where young women can see themselves in tech.

“Events like this don’t just spark girls’ interest in tech - they show them that they belong in the industry, and offer real pathways to launch STEM careers after graduation,” Ms Wilkins said.

"I came here to explore future careers in STEM and I really enjoyed all of sessions and the expo," said one of the 14-year-old students who attended the event.

NAB Chief Technology Officer Steve Day said supporting Go Girl, Go For It reflects NAB’s commitment to opening doors into tech.

“At NAB, we’re passionate about creating real pathways into tech - not just for those already in the industry, but for students, career-changers and returners.

“Events like Go Girl show young women - who are tomorrow’s tech trail blazers - what’s possible. They help build skills and confidence from an early age.

“Programs like our global StarCamp bootcamp, along with NAB’s growing suite of internships and graduate programs, help them take the next step,” Mr Day said.

“It’s about building a tech workforce that’s bold, inclusive and ready for the future.”
