Eligibility criteria

  1. You're 14 years or older. 
    If you’re under the age of 14, you’ll need to visit a NAB branch with your parent or guardian to open your account. Learn how to open a bank account for children.

  2. You're an Australian resident for tax purposes .

  3. You have an Australian mobile number.

Rates and key fees for a NAB Visa Debit card

  • Monthly account fee: $0
  • International transaction fee on purchases: 3.5% of the AUD amount
  • Withdrawal fee at over 4,000 ATMs: $0

ID requirements for new customers

Verifying your ID

You’ll need a smartphone to scan your ID, and to take a selfie for verification. 

If you’re not able to do this because you don’t have a smartphone or for any other reason, please call 13 22 65 or visit a branch.

Acceptable forms of ID

To apply for this account, you’ll need at least one form of ID so we can verify your identity. However, if possible, please try and provide two forms of ID.

  • Australian passport

  • Foreign passport

  •  Australian driver’s licence

  • Medicare card (can only be used in conjunction with another form of ID if you’re 18 years or older)

  • Birth certificate (for applicants aged 18 or under)

If you’re under the age of 18, you’ll need two forms of ID to apply. One of these can be your birth certificate. 

Other things to consider

Open an optional NAB iSaver or NAB Reward Saver within your NAB Visa Debit card application.

If you don't have an existing NAB transaction account to access funds in your NAB iSaver, we'll require you to open a NAB Classic Banking account and NAB Visa Debit card as part of your NAB iSaver application.
