Sometimes whether you lose or save money on your trip can depend on how your pay for your holiday expenses. For example, by using your credit card rather than paying for meals in the local currency, you could be hit with a credit card surcharge.

We have a few suggestions on when and how to use your various payment methods to avoid as many fees and charges as possible and maybe pick up a few benefits along the way.

If you lose your NAB Traveller card we may be able to send you emergency funds within 20 minutes (depending on where you are).5

1 A qualifying purchase is required to get the benefits of the complimentary insurance. See terms, conditions and exclusions of the complimentary insurances are specified in the NAB Card Insurance Policy Information booklet (PDF, 391KB) and in the NAB Purchase Protection Insurance Policy Information Booklet (PDF, 924KB) and may be amended. The complimentary insurances is issued by QBE Insurance (Australia) Limited ABN 78 003 191 035 to NAB. Access to the benefit of cover under the NAB card insurances is provided to eligible NAB cardholders by operation of s48 of the Insurance Contracts Act 1984 (Cth).

4Withdrawals and transactions: Some operators and merchants may directly charge a fee. Daily transaction and ATM withdrawal limits apply. Transactions and fees that require a currency conversion are calculated using MasterCard foreign exchange rates and are subject to NAB’s Foreign Currency Conversion fee.

5 For emergency funds in the local Currency to be sent to you via a global money transfer network in an emergency situation. Emergency funds can be sent to you within 20 minutes depending on your location. Card Services will notify you how long it will take for funds to reach you, for example in Japan and some remote locations this can take up to 24 hours.
