Group General Counsel and Group Executive, Legal and Corporate Affairs

Jon Benson was appointed Group General Counsel in October 2025 and Group Executive, Legal and Corporate Affairs in October 2026. Jon is accountable for leading NAB's Legal, Regulatory, Governance, Office of the Customer Advocate and Corporate Affairs functions. Jon is an experienced legal executive with more than 25 years in senior legal and management roles across Australia, Europe and Asia, specialising in the financial services sector. He brings deep expertise in institutional banking, securitisation and debt capital markets, along with extensive experience leading complex legal, regulatory and governance matters across multiple jurisdictions.

Since joining NAB in August 2021, Jon has held several senior leadership positions within the legal function. 

Before joining NAB, Jon held senior legal leadership roles at major financial institutions across Sydney and Asia.

Earlier in his career, he practised law with Mallesons in Sydney and Sidley Austin in London.

Jon holds Bachelor of Commerce, Economics and Law degrees from the University of Sydney. He also served in the Australian Army Reserve and graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon.
