Pete Steel

Pete Steel became Group Executive, Technology & AI in October 2026. He is responsible for National Australia Bank's enterprise-wide technology and artificial intelligence agenda, bringing together technology, data and analytics, AI, cyber security, architecture and engineering capabilities to help drive the bank's continued transformation and deliver better outcomes for customers and colleagues.

Pete joined NAB in November 2025 as Group Executive, Digital, Data & AI, where he led the bank's digital, data, design, customer onboarding and artificial intelligence teams, as well as UBank, to deliver better experiences for customers.

Pete brings more than 30 years' experience in senior roles across banking, finance and technology. Prior to joining NAB, he was Managing Director, Customer Engagement at Lloyds Banking Group in the UK, where he led a division of approximately 16,000 people across consumer sales and service, digital, artificial intelligence, personalisation, branches, call centres and advisers.

Before Lloyds, Pete founded fintech startup Expertli and worked as a Senior Adviser on digital transformation at Boston Consulting Group. He also spent 16 years at Commonwealth Bank of Australia in a range of executive roles, including Group Chief Digital Officer and Chief Information Officer for the Retail Bank.

Pete holds a Bachelor of Information Technology from the University of Technology Sydney.
