Background and experience
Philip has more than 40 years' experience across banking and financial services in Australia and New Zealand. He was responsible for the Retail and Commercial business of Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ) in Australia. Prior to joining ANZ, Mr Chronican had a long career at Westpac Banking Corporation (Westpac), including the roles of Group CFO of Westpac and Group Executive of its Institutional business. He also served as NAB Interim Group CEO from March to November 2019.
His diverse non-executive career spans financial services, food and consumer retail, medical research, economics and public policy.
Philip brings extensive strategic, financial and management expertise, including experience in M&A activity, transformation, business performance, risk management, capital management, financial reporting, stakeholder engagement, organisational leadership and governance. Philip has taken an active and public role in advocating for greater transparency and ethics in banking and promoting workforce diversity and has a strong interest in climate change.
