Travel with a NAB Visa Debit card

Paying for an overseas trip with your own hard-earned money allows you to enjoy your time off without having to worry about paying back any debt. If you don't want to use credit to pay for your upcoming holiday, one of the simplest things you can do is tap into your travel savings using your NAB Visa Debit card.

Can I use my NAB Visa Debit card overseas?

You can use your card wherever Visa is accepted, including overseas and online. Unlike a credit card, using a debit card means you won’t have to worry about high credit interest rates, or paying off any holiday debts, because when you use a debit card you use your own money.

Use your NAB Visa Debit card to:

  • Withdraw money at ATMs or at a branch, and to make purchases in person, online or over the phone.

Remember, you may be charged international transaction fees and other non-NAB ATM fees if you use your card to withdraw money from an overseas ATM or from a non-NAB ATM in Australia. For more information please refer to Personal Banking Fees and Charges (PDF, 647KB).

  • Access Visa travel offers from Agoda, Booking.com. Hertz and more.

Saving money for overseas travel

Here are some tips to help you save and manage your spending, so you can travel overseas and spend with your NAB Visa Debit card.

1. Open a savings account

You can earn interest on your money with a savings account. With the NAB iSaver, you have the flexibility to easily access your money, and withdrawing won’t affect your interest rate. The NAB Reward Saver gives you bonus interest for making monthly deposits and no withdrawals.

2. Set up a savings goal

Set up a Savings Space for your travel savings, so you can track your progress towards saving for your dream trip. Savings Spaces is a feature within the NAB app that helps you save for all your financial goals, dreams and plans. Perhaps set up a separate account for your travel savings to make it easier to see how much you have to spend while you’re away. Find out more about the benefits of bucketing your money.

3. Track your expenses

Understand exactly where your money is going with Spending. Spending is our expense tracking tool in NAB Internet Banking and the NAB App  that helps you keep track of your expenses and organise your money.  You can use it to save before you travel, and to keep on top of your expenses while you’re overseas.

4. Know about international transaction fees

International transaction fees may apply when using your card overseas, including ATM cash withdrawals. The NAB Platinum Visa Debit Card has no international transaction fee on purchases. Find out more about international transaction fees, including cards with no international transaction fees.

5. Travel for less

The cost of flights and accommodation can vary, depending on how and where you book. Check out NAB Goodies and Visa travel offers for flight, accommodation and other offers.

6. Travel insurance

Some of our cards offer complimentary international travel insurance. While these are great offers, you should read the fine print to see what is and isn’t covered by these insurances. It’s a good idea to put some extra money aside in case you need additional travel insurance to cover your specific needs.
